- Title
Committee Splits over Downgrading of E. coil Containment.
- Authors
Henig, Robin Marantz
- Abstract
The article presents information about the exemption of recombinant DNA experiments involving Escherichia coli (E. coli ) K-12 bacteria from the guidelines of the National Institute of Health (NIH) of the U.S. The submission of a registration document by the researcher to the local Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) describing the experiment would be the only restriction imposed by the NIH. The U.S. Recombinant DNA Advisory Committee has recommended that all E. coli K-12 experiments will be conducted at the P-1 level of physical containment because it adheres to good standards of microbiological practice.
