- Title
ONCE AGAIN THE OPENING OF PLATO'S GORGIAS.
- Authors
Sansone, David
- Abstract
The article discusses the study which argued the differing reactions to Socrates' late arrival that put the blame on Chaerephon in Plato's book "Gorgias." It notes that Callicles' rhetoric attributed to Socrates' vice of gluttony and represented the memorable feature of Falstaff's character. It reveals that Plato's use of metaphor at the beginning of the dialogue was to anticipate the analogy that Socrates will choose between the 'art' of rhetoric and the 'art' of the chef.
