- Abstract
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) continue to pose public health challenges to adolescents and young adults who continue to comprise half of all new infections diagnosed annually. Several factors have been implied to increase their risk of acquiring such infections. Understanding sexual practices in youth is important in recognizing STIs spread. There are factors that increase their risk of acquiring STIs and research continues to focus on mitigating these factors to improve sexual health. All STIs are preventable, most are treatable, but not all are curable. In this discussion, we review the definition, clinical presentation, epidemiology, complications, diagnosis and treatment of diverse STIs.
