- Abstract
In Brazil, there are Integrated Regions of Economic Development (RIDES) that are constituted by more than one state, and thus can be seen as a heterogeneous set in which large agglomerations of demographic, economic, social and political importance substantially differ. The general objective of this work was to characterize these Integrated Development Region of the Federal District and its Surroundings - RIDE/DF, considering the composition stated by Complementary Law 163/2018, in the political, spatial, and socioeconomic spheres. Through bibliographical and analytical research, It was possible to observe that the municipalities that constitute the RIDE/DF underwent a disorderly urbanization that was not caused by industrialization nor is linked to factors related to an egalitarian regional development. The RIDE/DF was characterized by centralization of economic functions, work opportunities, and residential segregation, caused largely by initial actions of the state, and which resulted in several problems, such as structural unemployment, housing deficit, urban violence, and socio-spatial inequality, which affect not only the DF, since this generates overflow effects for the other municipalities of the RIDE/DF.
