- Title
The Incest Plot: Marriage, Closure, and the Novel's Endogamy.
- Authors
Hershinow, Stephanie Insley
- Abstract
The article generalizes the queer potentialities of the novel to the narrative structure itself, exploring the incest plot as a critique of the novel's heterosexual endogamy. It proposes that it is no coincidence that the eighteenth-century novel is a site both for the emergence of the marriage plot as a near-hegemonic generic schema and for the proliferation of representations of incest as a perversely redundant mode of affiliation.
