- Authors
Garcia, Humberto
- Abstract
The essay argues that the satiric portrayal of British Whig reformers as Teckelite infidels in Restoration English literature is based upon the circa 1671 book "The Rise and Progress of Mahometanism" by Henry Stubbe. The term Teckelite is based on accounts of Hungarian rebel Imre Thököly, known as Count Teckely in England. Other subjects considered include the Exclusion Crisis of 1679-1681, the influence of the the English Civil War on popular opinion of British King Charles II's monarchy, and the Rye House Plot.
