- Title
CAST TITANIUM CUTS COST OF M777 LIGHTWEIGHT HOWITZER.
- Abstract
The article reports that research conducted at the U.S. Navy Metalworking Center (NMC) created design and manufacturing process improvements and cost savings for the M777 A2 155 mm towed howitzers, produced by BAE Systems. The NMC reduced the weight of the original design from 16,000 pounds to 9000 pounds and simplified creation of parts such as a titanium spade and saddle by creating a single near-net casting instead of using multiple parts .
