- Abstract
Affecting the histories of societies, the history of literature which is shaped by huge and significant changes is categorized under those changes. This situation appeared as a result of two general sub-categories of Turkish Literature as Turkish Literature before Islam and Turkish Literature after Islam. Among the major elements of Turkish Literature during the period of Islam are the works which reflect the religion, culture and aesthetic of Islam. Every event which has been seen since the beginning of the history of Islam found its reflection on Classical Turkish Literature, and the poets and authors, in a way, took as their duty the narration of religion, history and culture of Islam through their works. The subject of Ramadan which is going to be evaluated within this respect has a multi-layered world of meaning within itself. Qadr Night which is celebrated during Ramadan gained especially a social importance becoming a current social issue besides its religious holiness. Qadr Night is a name in the culture of Islam given to the holy night when the Holy Quran was revealed by the God. For that reason, the poets in the Ottoman society, where the effects of the culture of Islam were highly felt in the daily life, touched upon the spiritual atmosphere of that night in their works. The concept of Qadr Night in Classical Turkish poetry shows itself in general terms as verse or couplet, in some or all parts of poetic texts with various similes and metaphors. In this study, touching upon the religious and socio-cultural meaning of Qadr Night which has a significant importance in Ramadan, the usage of the concept of Qadr Night in Classical Turkish poetry has been expressed and its world of meaning has been analyzed within the scope of one of Şeyhî's gazelle.
