- Title
The Allusive Cather.
- Authors
Arnold, Marilyn; Rosowski, Susan J.
- Abstract
This article discusses several allusions to other works of literature in the book "One of Ours," by Willa Cather. The author suggests that critical readers should see the meaning behind Cather's allusions to characters in the books "The Last Days of Pompeii," by Edward Bulwer-Lytton and "Christ or Diana," a painting by Edwin Long. Other allusions in Cather's work are based on works by Shakespeare, such as "King John," "Coriolanus," and "Troilus and Cressida." The author says that the majority of allusions in Cather's work are from classical Victorian works.
