- Abstract
In this paper, we investigate how a school based dance project was perceived with respect to its effects by the participating students and their teachers. Students from eight elementary school classes were instructed in contemporary dance over the course of half a school year or an entire school year. We interviewed 79 of the students, their eight class teachers and the nine external dance lecturers. By means of inductive category formation according to Mayring, eight categories of effects were identified. Selfconfidence, interest in dancing, openness and body awareness were addressed by all stakeholder groups, however, they differed in the importance they attributed to them. Perseverance, balance, ability to concentrate and joy to learn were mentioned by the students and their class teachers only. The categories identified in this research can also be used in future quantitative surveys evaluating the effectiveness of projects of cultural education.
