The article examines the clinical and financial outcomes of a palliative care consultation service in an acute care multi-specialty hospital. Goals of the program include assisting patients with end-of-life decisions, providing pain and symptom control services, and evaluating patients prior to hospice admission. The article reports that physicians are reluctant to utilize the palliative care services.
