- Abstract
Tourism is the second largest industry in the state of New Jersey. It is important to understand the travel behavior of those visitors who have been to New Jersey. The purpose of this study is to 1) to categorize travelers based upon the duration of their trips, for example, day-trippers vs overnight travelers; 2) to describe and profile travel behaviors (e.g. primary travel purpose and primary information source) and travel related expenditures (e.g. lodging, food and beverage, shopping, entertainment/recreation, transportation, and touring/sightseeing) of day-trippers and overnight travelers; 3) to explore the differences between day-trippers and overnight travelers. A convenience sample was drawn among visitors to eight Welcome Centers in New Jersey. This study had some significant findings.
