- Abstract
The article presents an analysis of German children's and young adult literature featuring Native Americans in the 1950s and 1960s, discussing primarily the books "Fliegender Stern: Die Erlebnisse eines kleinen Indianerjungen und seine mutige große Tat," by Ursula Wölfel, the novel "Die Hunde Wakondas," by Käthe Recheis, and the trilogy "Die Söhne der großen Bärin," by Liselotte Welskopf-Henrich. Topics addressed include the position of the texts within the broader tradition of German adventure stories, the authors' ethnographic knowledge, and the authenticity of Welskopf-Henrich's depiction of Dakota culture.
