- Abstract
The article "Demotic Papyrus Hamburg 39 (inv. no. 35.2806): A New Religious Text from Roman Egypt" presents the first edition of a Demotic papyrus fragment from the early Roman period. The fragment contains parts of a previously unknown religious work, which may possibly belong to Osirian religious literature. The papyrus is kept in the Hamburg State and University Library Carl von Ossietzky and probably originates from the Fayum. The exact content and purpose of the text are not clear due to limited information and difficulties in deciphering and interpreting it. Various readings and interpretations of the hieroglyphs are discussed, but no definitive translation is offered. The text addresses topics such as clay, embalming, birds, mourning, and water. Parallels to similar texts are also drawn to discuss possible meanings.
