This essay argues that land development should be recognized and treated as one of the major environmental problems of modern times. Topics covered include the need to prioritize land development as one of the greatest threat the well-being of humanity, the role of land-based natural resources as proxies for some of the environmental issues facing society, and factors contributing to the wickedness of land development, rivaling the wickedness of climate change.
