- Authors
Eve, David
- Abstract
The article reports on the Monktonhall Colliery, considered as the most daring program developed by the National Coal Board (NCB) in Scotland. It states the Monktonhall began in 1953 which aimed to produce 1,000,000 tons of coal every year to the market. Monktonhall Mineworkers Ltd. takeover the management of the colliery in 1991, however, the colliery went into bankruptcy due to competition in the energy market. The buildings were demolished in 1997-1998. A perspective layout of the colliery and its steel winding towers and ground-based engine houses by Egon Riss is presented.
