- Authors
Neeley, James D.
- Abstract
The article discusses how the creation of an engineering library at the University of Kansas by Frank O. Marvin, dean of the college’s School of Engineering, reflects engineering education in the U.S. Marvin promoted the acquisition of engineering literature. The distance of the university’s library from its other buildings and its complex filing system inspired Marvin to propose the creation of a separate library for the engineering department. The increased emphasis on engineering literature, the need for English courses related to engineering and increased student and faculty research also contributed to the need for an engineering library. Marvin also promoted the importance of books to engineers.
