- Abstract
The article presents information on the submission of "no case to answer" during a criminal trial in the English courts by the defendant at the closing of the prosecution's case. It discusses the application of such direct verdict with reference to the trial of R v. Courtney. It further discusses the need of reviewing such trials in which a defendant is being tried for a second time on same offense. It also focuses on the decisions of the Parliament of England for permitting such appeals.
