- Title
Telling tails.
- Abstract
The author argues against legislating the docking of dogs' tails in Great Britain, in reference to a study by Gillian Diesel and colleagues. The study quantified the risk of tail injury in dogs, evaluated the extent to which tail docking reduces the risk, and identified major risk factors. It was found that the overall risk of tail injury was low and that non-work trauma accounted for most of the injuries. The author concludes that prophylactic docking cannot be justified.
