The article discusses a proposal to allow permanent residents in America the legal right to vote in elections, and it mentions opponents' concerns about noncitizen voting, the differences between lawful permanent residents and noncitizens, and the history of noncitizen voting in the U.S. as of 2017. The legal and political aspects of voting rights in America are examined, along with a representative democracy and freedom of speech rights under the U.S. Constitution's First Amendment.
