ICNA and the Global Regional Initiative Program: Aligning with IGAP towards providing child neurology services where they are most needed.

- Abstract
The International Child Neurology Association (ICNA) conducted a project in 2023 to assess the number of child neurologists worldwide and the availability of pediatric neurology training. The results showed a significant shortage of child neurologists, particularly in countries with high socioeconomic barriers, such as Africa and Southeast Asia. This shortage aligns with the regions of the world with the highest burden of neurology-related diseases. To address this issue, the ICNA has developed the Global Regional Initiative Program (GRIP), which aims to combine resources and support key child neurology projects. Examples of successful partnerships include projects in Latin America and Africa. The ICNA will continue to collaborate with other child neurology associations to improve access to care and support under-resourced settings. The 2024 International Child Neurology Congress will be held in Cape Town, focusing on supporting healthcare in low- and middle-income countries.
