- Abstract
The following report will first address worldwide and European studies that have described the situation in physical education in Europe. An introduction to the role of the European Physical Education Association (EUPEA, Association of European PE teachers) is then followed by some initial results from a recent inquiry ('EUPEA Questionnaire on the European PE Curriculum') into the situation of physical education in Europe (e.g. name of the subject - status of the subject physical education in the curriculum - assessment (grading) - goals of the subject physical education - accountability for the curriculum - number of students per class - time allocation - sports facilities for physical education - physical education teacher education (PETE) - extracurricular activities). This enquiry focused on obtaining a progress report on the situation in physical education in the different countries benchmarked against the desirable situation for physical education in Europe.
