- Abstract
The article explores the service learning method of linking science education to communities. Service learning is technically a teaching and learning method that combines meaningful community service with academics, personal growth, and civic responsibility. It reflects the beliefs that the students have the capacity to contribute to their education is associated to social responsibility. Research results indicated that engagement of students in service activities that are integrated into the academic curriculum can increase learning, improve motivation toward school, build awareness of society, provide opportunities to explore career options, develop self-concept and self-esteem, and foster collaboration and unity among students of different races, ethnicities, and beliefs.
