- Title
Temporary Housing for the Homeless: A Pre-engineering Design Project.
- Authors
Schreuders, Paul D.; Salmon, Scott D.; Stewardson, Gary A.
- Abstract
The article focuses on a project that was given to high school students to design a shelter that could be used by homeless people with only bodily warmth as a source of heat. It is noted that the project could be achieved by following the engineering design process and provides tips on design strategies for the structure to increase the amount of heat generated by occupants and the heat that leaves the shelter. The article presents formulas for calculating heat loss and compares thermal versus electrical systems resistance.
