- Abstract
The article discusses the Australian Protection of Movable Cultural Heritage (PCMH) Act 1986 and the Protection of Movable Cultural Heritage Regulations 1987. The author describes how the Act and Regulations help to protect cultural property in Australia and describes how the legislation relates to the Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property 1970. Other topics include Australian UNESCO ambassador and former Prime Minister Gough Whitlam, ways that the Act limits the export of cultural heritage and allows the recovery of exported heritage, enforcement provisions of the legislation, and international collaboration on cultural heritage.
