- Title
Schnable A.: Amateurs Without Borders: The Aspirations and Limits of Global Compassion: University of California Press, Oakland, 2021.
- Authors
Flanigan, Shawn Teresa
- Abstract
Schnable presents a compelling analysis of a new class of actors on the international development scene that she calls "grassroots international nongovernmental organizations", or grassroots INGOs. Schnable does an enviable job of deftly interweaving the social science literature with her qualitative research findings in a manner that feels like narrative storytelling, making her findings intelligible, relatable, and enjoyable to read. Recognizing the myriad challenges of collecting and analyzing data about smaller nonprofit organizations, Schnable takes a novel approach to examining the role of grassroots INGOs in development.
