Spam e-mails killing the environment, McAfee report says.
- Authors
Lemon, Sumner
- Abstract
The article focuses on a report written by ICF International and commissioned by antivirus vendor McAfee which stated that spam electronic mails (e-mails) clog the atmosphere with carbon dioxide. The report noted that the 33 billion kilowatt hours of electricity consumed by about 62 trillion spam e-mail can power 2.4 million homes. One of the cited drawbacks of the report is its failure to detail the methodology used to arrive at its conclusion. The author cites that the main argument of McAfee is the efficiency of fighting spam at the source.
