- Title
PRICE DIFFERENTIALS AMONG GROCERY STORES IN BLOOMINGTON, INDIANA.
- Authors
Haas, Harold M.
- Abstract
The article presents a pricing research study between independent grocery and chain grocery stores in the Bloomington, Indiana area. The study's methodology is described and the author notes that different brand foods and labor services could impact the pricing research between stores. Each of the ten stores studied is described in terms of location, design, unique characteristics, proprietor, and services. National chain supermarkets were found to have lower than average prices; independent stores had higher prices than the average store. The results are discussed and the author states these grocery stores do not all compete on price; many customers are willing to pay more for certain services.
