Persepolis: the Monument of Xerxes.
- Authors
Stoneman, Richard
- Abstract
The author responds to the 1967 published article by George Woodcock on the Achaemenid Persian capital of Persepolis in modern Iran. The city was designed and constructed under the rules of Darius I and his son Xerxes. Topics include inscriptions found on the buildings such as the treasury and harem, archaeological support for various stories regarding the burning of the city, and the city's archives of clay tablets.
