The article discusses the friendship between administrator for King Henry VIII of England and statesman Thomas Cromwell and Abbess Margaret Vernon, believed to have lasted from the 1520s until at least 1538. Topics considered include extant correspondence between the two, monastic reforms in England in the early 16th century, and the dissolution of the monasteries and the creation of the Church of England under Henry VIII.
