- Abstract
The article discusses the history of architecture during the Georgian period in 18th-century England. During this period, the use of urban interior spaces changed to reflect the social needs of entertaining of the middle and upper classes and were notable for their use of small rooms in a narrow footprint. Such rooms were designed as specialised rooms such as dining rooms, withdrawing rooms, and parlours. The article provides contemporary accounts of visits, or social calls, and compares and contrasts accounts of women's social engagements with men's visiting habits.
