- Abstract
The article provides information on local economic development agencies (LEDA) in South Africa. The agencies include the Lower-Orange Economic Development Activator (LOREDA), the Nkomazi Economic Development Unit (NKEDU), the O.R. Tambo Economic Development Agency (ORTEDA) and the Vhember Economic Development Agency (VHEDA). It gives a historical overview of the establishment of LEDAs and their objectives, and evaluates their accomplishments between 1999 and 2003. The article also compares the success of South African LEDAs with international LEDAs.
