- Abstract
Discourse on nature today finds itself in a paradoxical situation. On the one hand it is almost exclusively scientific. On the other hand approaches to the universe remain manifold: some are scientific, but at the same time philosophical, ecological, aesthetical, psychological, theological, etc. This article welcomes this polysemeity and offers a synthetic account of it. Following a brief historical outline (first part), the article develops in three movements, each one more encompassing. The first unification, univocal, which concerns philosophical cosmologies and natural sciences, is organized around three complementary perspectives: atomist, substantialist and holistic (second part). The second part of the article explores the other two unifications.
