- Abstract
This paper analyses the impact that the growing diffusion of experimental sciences is having on the study of medieval societies, based on the experience of the research programme carried out in the Basque Country between 2005 and 2023. It is argued that the "scientific turn" of the humanistic disciplines is transforming not only their methodologies of study, but above all, their conceptual and theoretical dimensions. The systematic use of these new records requires an intense scientific literacy, but also a theoretical and ontological reformulation of the way in which narratives about the past are constructed. The main consequence of this approach lies in the need for a cultural change that takes into consideration the ways in which research projects are elaborated, the organisation of research groups, training and scientific communication. It concludes by proposing some lines of work that favour "deep interdisciplinarity".
