- Abstract
This article explores language attrition in Macedonian learners of English living in a Macedonian-speaking environment. The study focuses on L2 attrition, specifically looking at whether Macedonian learners of English retain their English skills after high school and comparing those who pursue an English-based curriculum in university with those who study in Macedonian. The results of the study show that both groups experienced attrition, maintenance, and improvement in their English proficiency, and factors such as language of instruction and exposure to an English-speaking country were not reliable predictors of attrition or improvement. The article suggests that further research is needed to understand other factors that contribute to language attrition.
