- Abstract
The article discusses the depiction of Montenegrin women in Montenegrin literature and film and its connection to the declaration of Montenegro's independence in 2006. More specifically, the author is concerned with the ways in which literary works and films relate the question of national sovereignty to female characters by engaging with the notion of increased women's rights in the independent nation. Works discussed include the novel "Dječak iz vode" ("A Boy out of Water"), by Ksenija Popović, the novel "Sin" ("Son"), by Andrej Nikolaidis, and the film "Opet pakujemo majmune" ("We Are Packing Monkeys Again"), directed by Marija Perović.
