SEED DRESSINGS FOR THE CONTROL OF WHEAT BULB FLY.
- Authors

- Abstract
This article presents a study on the use of seed dressings in controlling wheat bulb fly. Non of the 27 different insecticides tested as seed dressings gave complete protection against wheat bulb fly attack. With the most successful treatments, such as dieldrin and heptachlor at 1% of the weight of the seed, there were 50-70% fewer damaged stems than with plants from untreated seeds, or those treated with fungicide only. Conditions in these experiments were similar to those in the field. Factors like weather or sowing date might alter the amount of protection afforded by any one insecticide, but the relative potencies of the materials tested would be approximately the same.
