- Abstract
The article discusses the rediscovery of Swertia dilatata var. pilosa, a plant species in the genus Swertia, after 140 years. The genus is known for its medicinal importance and is mainly found in the temperate and alpine Himalayan regions. Swertia dilatata var. pilosa is differentiated from other varieties by its greenish yellow corolla and hairy leaf and calyx. The specimen was collected in the Deval region of Uttarakhand, India, and is the first record of this variety in India. The researchers found only a few individuals of this variety growing in semi-shaded areas of an evergreen forest. The variety's conservation status is currently considered Data Deficient, but further assessment is being conducted for the IUCN Red List.
