- Title
Illegal pangolin trade in Nepal: a response to Suwal et al.
- Authors
Bashyal, Ashish
- Abstract
A recent study by Suwal et al. analyzed data on seizures of pangolins in Nepal from 2010-2020 to investigate the extent of hunting and illegal trade of these threatened species. The study found that illegal pangolin trade is widespread in Nepal, with Kathmandu and districts bordering the Nepal-China border being major points of trade. Other studies by Paudel et al. and Bashyal et al. also reached similar conclusions. However, the volume of seizures reported is likely an underestimate of the actual trade. Collaborative action is needed to address this issue.
