- Abstract
The article discusses the recent DANZ Awards, which celebrate diversity and authentic representation in children's literature. The winners of the awards were chosen by a panel of children, who read and reflected on the nominated books. The importance of diversity in children's literature is highlighted, as it allows young readers to see themselves and different cultures in the books they read. Authentic representation in literature has been shown to promote empathy, build confidence, reduce prejudice, and develop critical thinking skills. The DANZ Awards aim to not only celebrate diversity but also provide a resource for schools, libraries, and bookstores to inform their collection development and ensure that the right books are in the hands of children who need them.
