- Abstract
Given the disbursed and global nature of most organizations today, the relevance of virtual work is growing and the use of virtual teams within the enterprise has become commonplace. As such the topic of virtuality and what makes for success as a virtual worker or as part of a virtual work team has come under intense scrutiny by both academic researchers and business organization practitioners. While work place studies abound, little has been done to date to consider the role that schools of business education should play in preparing students for the world of virtual work. The purpose of this paper is to introduce a project currently underway at the D'Amore-McKim School of Business (DMSB) at Northeastern University to integrate applied virtual work experiences into the core business school curriculum. By exposing students to the current knowledge about virtual work and by then placing these students in virtual team settings, our research team has created a laboratory for the study of how to effectively prepare students for this aspect of their future work experiences.
