- Abstract
The article shares lessons learned about disaster preparedness in a military nursing context applied to a civilian setting. Strategies to facilitate disaster preparations within military nursing include disaster drills, use of a designated person as a the point of contact, and integration of disaster-specific education at all levels of nursing education. Recommendations for civilian practice settings include problem-solving and decision-making skills, communication and competency training.
