- Title
Cannabis by any name does not smell as sweet: potential cardiovascular events with medical cannabis.
- Authors
II, Robert L Page
- Abstract
The article discusses the changing attitudes towards cannabis and its use worldwide, with many countries legalizing it for limited therapeutic purposes. The association between cannabis exposure and cardiovascular events has emerged as an important safety concern. The article explores the physiological effects of cannabis on the cardiovascular system and the potential mechanisms by which it may lead to cardiovascular complications. It also presents a study that found an elevated risk of new-onset arrhythmias in patients prescribed medical cannabis, regardless of the specific cannabinoid used. The article concludes that cannabis, whether recreational or medical, can have potential cardiovascular hazards and negative public health effects.
