- Abstract
An epidemiological descriptive and retrospective study, with the purpose of describing the epidemiological profile of Diabetes Mellitus patients in the municipality of Salvador-Ba, during the period from 2002 to 2012. Secondary data from the Hiperdia System, available on the DATASUS, was used. In the period under study, 4,279 cases of DM were registered, of which 86.0% of type 2 DM and 14.0% of type 1 DM. For all the years, the highest number of cases was for the age group of 40 to 59 years (55.8%) and for the female gender (61.8%). The frequency of sedentary lifestyles, overweight and smoking corresponded to 43.8%, 27.0% and 13.5%, respectively. The most common complication was diabetic foot (2.5%). It can be concluded that DM is a frequent grievance in the population under study, mainly type 2, with great possibilities of developing chronic complications.
