- Abstract
An essay is presented which describes the experience of the author Reinaldo Arenas, who fled the country of Cuba as a social misfit. Arenas, who is a gay author, is known for being an activist against the dictatorship of Fidel Castro. His books "Hallucinations: or, The Ill-Fated Peregrinations of Fray Servando" and "The Palace of the White Skunks" are examined and the controversial nature of his writing is explored. His autobiography "Antes que anochezca" is also discussed.
