- Abstract
The article "German Foreign Policy as a 'Christmas Tree Strategy'?" criticizes German foreign policy as a strategy where everyone can express their wishes and Santa Claus fulfills them, regardless of conflicting goals and lack of resources. The authors argue for a focus on fewer partner countries and relevant areas in German development aid. It is argued that Germany should play a prominent global role, but it is criticized that Germany does not take into account the massive defeats and misdevelopments of recent years. The limited influence of Germany is evident in the Ukraine war, and it is argued that Germany should concentrate its resources on internal reform and change processes. The BMZ strategy is discussed as a realistic limitation of development aid in order to focus on the realization of German interests.
