- Abstract
The article discusses the development of a capital market for start-up companies in Canada, with emphasis given to the formation of the Canadian Venture Exchange (CDNX), a conglomeration of various Canadian regional stock exchanges. The competition between various regional stock exchanges and commodity markets is explained by the author. The effects of a gold mining scandal created by the company Bre-X on the operation of the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSE) are then analyzed. The role of the Vancouver Stock Exchange (VSX) in fostering the formation of the Venture Exchange is detailed.
