- Abstract
In this article the author recounts his early years in Jamaica following graduation from Harvard University. The author had a degree in social sciences, but had no career plans when he arrived in Jamaica to research the people in a small rural village. He describes the many daily activities and rituals that the villagers participated in. As the author stayed longer in Jamaica, he moved to an inner city area where he observed a different group of Jamaicans and experienced their religious ceremonies. The author describes his entry into Jamaican politics and his efforts to preserve Jamaican culture.
