Substrate Utilization.
- Abstract
This article reports on Oded Bar-Or's contributions to energy metabolism in pediatric exercise. Starting in the late 1960s and early 1970s Bar-Or published papers on the maximal oxygen intake of school children. Bar-Or had previously worked with J.S. Skinner and E.R. Buskirk, two leaders in the field of exercise science, at the Laboratory for Human Performance Research, Institute for Science and Engineering at Pennsylvania State University. Bar-Or was instrumental in determining that children were not simply miniaturized adults, but rather that they had their own unique biochemical and physiological responses to exercise and their environment.
