- Abstract
In orthognathic surgery, the determination of the proper jaw relation is a key success factor. This can be identified via a virtual operation with study casts using a surgical wafer that defines these new positions. This case study of a mandibular displacement describes the virtual design and fabrication of 3D-printed surgical wafers. After preoperative aligning, casts were digitized in centric relation using a 3D scanner. In the virtual planning, the displacement of the mandible was simulated on the cephalometric radiograph and transferred to the virtual models. In the first step, a centric wafer and later a target wafer were constructed. These were 3D printed with a biocompatible photopolymer and would be used for positioning during surgery. By means of a centric wafer, the proximal jaw segment was fixated. The displacement was performed with a minimally invasive supraforaminal osteotomy.
